Sacred Heart Primary celebrates refurbishment
On Friday 19 June, a new administration block and refurbished library and learning spaces were officially opened and blessed at Sacred Heart Primary, Mt Druitt. The new facilities were designed to cater to the diverse needs of the student population and to support contemporary learning and teaching.
The facilities, completed at a cost of around $2 million were officially opened by executive director of schools, Greg Whitby and blessed by Bishop of Parramatta, Bishop Kevin Manning. The building project received just under $300,000 in Commonwealth Capital Grants funding and assistance with loan servicing through the NSW Government’s Interest Subsidy Scheme, with the balance coming from the Parramatta Diocesan Building Levy Scheme.
Greg took the opportunity to thank the government for their support and to congratulate the staff and students on what has already been achieved at the school and on future achievements made possible by the new facilities.
‘Buildings of themselves mean nothing, we give them life when we do things in them and I know that the work you are doing here at Sacred Heart is the best work we can do for learning and teaching. Stand proud on the work you have done and continue to do your very best for all of us,’ said Greg.
Principal Moya McGuiness says that the new learning spaces have had an overwhelmingly positive impact on students. The flexible classrooms fitted with an array of technological tools have helped overcome barriers to learning such as language differences, and all students are thriving in the new environment.
‘Our new learning spaces have created this rich and rewarding environment, I am so proud of what we have achieved together for the children at Sacred Heart in 2009 and for many years to come,’ said Moya.
