On Tuesday 28 February, a cohort of Catholic Education Office (CEO) staff, school staff and teachers graduated from their BCA National Training Group management courses at Parramatta RSL.

BCA has worked in partnership with Catholic Education since 2003 to provide professional learning opportunities for staff through industry recognised training qualifications.

Fifteen staff members undertook Certificate IV in Frontline Management in 2010 and were presented with their graduation certificates for successfully completing the course.

The Certificate IV in Frontline Management course places emphasis on project management skills, team building and customer service.

Assistant principal and course graduate, Tammy Prestage, said teachers’ commitment to lifelong learning benefits student learning outcomes.

‘We have challenged ourselves to learn new skills and to apply them in our professional lives,’ said Tammy. ‘The opportunity to pursue and participate in our professional development will help us to better serve our school communities.’

Twelve staff members graduated with a Diploma of Management which they began in 2011. The diploma builds on the competencies in the Certeficate IV and enhances skills in managing staff, leading a team and managing projects.

Trainer for the Diploma of Management course, David Wayne, said that he found himself learning from the group.

‘The level of enthusiasm, commitment and collaboration of this group is unique to my other training experiences,’ said David. ‘Everyone was so keen to take what they had learned and apply it in a professional capacity.’

Br Aengus Kavanagh, who presented the graduates with their certificates  said he was delighted to see another Catholic Education cohort committed to building their professional capacity.

‘In these changed times of learning, sophisticated schools demand a higher level of professional development and qualifications,’ said Br Aengus. ‘I am impressed by the passion for professional development by both teaching and non-teaching staff, all striving to help young people which is at the heart of what we do.’
