School Refurbishment inspires Punchbowl community

10/03/2009

When fire gutted the ground floor and first floor of one of St Jerome’s Primary School’s buildings, the local Punchbowl community was adversely affected. Students' work was destroyed, their learning was interrupted and teachers lost valuable teaching resources.

The staff, students and faith community of St Jerome’s resiliently adapted to this impediment, and now celebrate the completion of their refurbishment. A brand new top floor has been completed and flexible learning spaces were immediately put to use at the start of the school year. Mrs Rosalie Vine, Principal of St Jerome’s, invites interested parents and community members to tour the refurbished school during Catholic Schools Week.

'Parents who come to view the school are amazed at the new classrooms. The refurbishments have given the school a ‘wow’ factor, with students benefitting from state-of-the-art learning environments,' says Mrs Vine.

The school’s parent community were also closely involved in the building project, raising money which was used to provide air-conditioning to the building.

'We have a great learning community at the school and this is reflected through our wonderful teachers, enthusiastic parents and of course, dedicated students. I welcome all parents who are considering enrolling their children at St Jerome’s to book in for a guided tour of the school during Catholic School’s Week (March 22-28). It will be a perfect opportunity to see the great facilities we have and get an insight into the quality teaching and learning we provide,'enthuses Mrs Vine.

Tours will be conducted throughout Catholic Schools Week by appointment. To book a guided tour, contact the school directly on tel 9790 5988. Tours are also available in various community languages.
