This is the second part of the DVD a group of children from St John's Auburn have been working on. This video was put together by a group of children from years 3-6. These children took part of this workshop which was part of the Term 1 gifted and talented program. The children conducted their own research on the history of St John's. They gathered and sourced their own information and photos. These children then planned out the scence and scripts for this video. What I have uploaded is the first part. The video eventually leads into pictures which show how St John's has changed over the years. The video outlines the different variety of different activities which are annually held at St John's. Throughout this project the children have developed a variety of different skills including both workng as a team and using Technology. | 02/04/2008 1 item

Image: Links Day |
During April, over 300 Catholic primary students from the Peninsula Community of Schools in the Diocese of Broken Bay participated in two Primary-Secondary Links day events at St Paul’s Catholic College Manly and Mater Maria Catholic College, Warriewood. The Links program enables Year 3 students from the 12 Peninsula Parish primary schools to participate in a range of engaging educational activities in a high school environment. The students enjoyed activities prepared by the St Paul’s and Mater Maria staff in the areas of science, music, drama and physical education. At Mater Maria, the Physical Education activity was led by Year 10 students as part of their Physical Activities and Exercise Studies course. A magical display of experiments, musical enrichment and educational theatre about why bullying is never acceptable were performed by Mater Maria Year 11 Drama students in their Anti-Bullying play. It is a worthwhile day for the Year 3 students in the Peninsula Community of Catholic Schools and an opportunity to highlight the K-12 learning continuum in our Diocese of Broken Bay.

Our Lady Queen of Peace, Greystanes celebrated Catholic Schools Week with an abundance of activities. On Monday each grade presented an item from their current learning in Term One. Kindergarten sang about their names and what they mean. Year One went on a bear hunt! Year Two showed us how to dance and celebrate. Year Three made up a rap about plants. Year Four taught us about the eight planets of the solar system. Year Five gave a lesson on Japan. Year Six sang and used technology to showcase their learning about water use and justice. On Tuesday each class buddied up with an older grade to learn and teach each other new skills. On Wednesday the community were welcomed to our liturgy celebrating our Catholic identity. Friday was a day the parents were invited to take part in a lesson with their children which was followed by a picnic Recess throughout the grounds.

Image: Project Compassion |
During lent the student’s of St Mary’s Primary, Concord participated in Caritas' Project Compassion challenge. The challenge was to raise enough money to help support the people in the Philippines. Infant grades were involved in raising money to help one family buy a cow for $600. Primary Grades were involved in raising sufficient money to buy a water pump for a community in the Philippines. Year 6 school leaders along with Year 5 and 4 students came up with their own initiatives and activities to raise money. Some of these activities involved children organising handball competitions, wall ball, lolly guessing competitions, skipping competitions and obstacle courses.
